A road safety advocate says fines are not enough for drivers caught using cell phones

A road safety advocate says fines are not enough for drivers caught using cell phones

Clive Matthew Wilson is instead calling for phones to be confiscated for a first offence.

He believes people should lose their number if caught again, and have their vehicle impounded for a week if caught a third time.

Matthew-Wilson says fines aren't a strong enough deterrent and removing mobiles would have more impact.

He says losing your phone puts you out of contact with the world - so it's a short, sharp, and effective consequence and one that's long overdue.
