Police now say a vehicle wasn't used to gain entry to Smith and Caughey's on Auckland's Queen Street last night

They initially said police responded about 11.40pm to an incident where a vehicle was used to gain entry, and a number of people entered the store and took items before fleeing in three vehicles.

But a spokesperson now says after further enquiries they've established a vehicle wasn't used.

The three vehicles were used as transport and two of them were later found abandoned.
