Calls for Dunedin's student rental stock to improve - to save lives

Calls for Dunedin's student rental stock to improve - to save lives

Sophia Crestani was killed last year when she was caught in a stairwell pile-up at a notorious party house.

The 19-year-old's family - along with the university, police and city council - has now launched "The Sophia Charter", which aims to improve student safety in North Dunedin.

Otago Property Investors Association President Kathryn Seque says the quality of student housing is poor.

She says next year's Healthy Homes measures won't be enough - and flats need to be made safer for students.
