A stern call for secondary school students to get vaccinated against the meningococcal disease

A stern call for secondary school students to get vaccinated against the meningococcal disease

By 2030, the World Health Organisation wants to eliminate bacterial meningitis epidemics..and radically reduce cases or deaths of other vaccine-preventable strains.

With New Zealand having one of the worst rates of the disease in the developed world, health experts want youths vaccinated before they leave home.

Paul Chapman, who lost his daughter Miwa Chapman to meningitis last year, says young adults can't take a she'll be right approach.

He says people never know when they might get infected so they must protect themselves.
