Kiwi kids are exposed to nearly 250 percent more unhealthy marketing messages, than healthy

An Otago University study tracked 12-year-olds wearing cameras to capture an unfiltered view of the advertising children see.

It reveals youth are exposed to unhealthy food, alcohol and gambling marketing, 76 times a day.

Associate Professor Leah Watkins says children in the most deprived areas, are seeing the bulk of it.

She says a lot of the marketing is around children's environments, like schools, where they should be free of that messaging.
