A transport lobby group says it's critical construction starts soon on Auckland's Skypath project

Transport Minister Michael Wood has confirmed the design for the cycleway across the Harbour Bridge still needs sign off.

That's despite a previous commitment from the government that construction would start early this year.

Greater Auckland director Matt Lowrie says we need to get more people out of cars, and the path will be good for commuters, recreation and tourism.

He says walking and cycling across the harbour is one of the most supported projects in the city.
