The public's being asked to decide the future of the 101-year old History House Museum in Greymouth

The building's the former Grey County Council chambers.

It's valued at 300-thousand dollars, but bringing it up to earthquake standard could cost almost a million dollars.

With a forecast rate rise of 13.7 percent - the Grey District Council's weighing up whether it's worth it.

The long term plan opened for public submissions on Thursday.
