    A Coromandel woman who was attacked by a pack of pig dogs says she fears for public safety


    The retiree - who only wants to be known by Donna was mauled while walking along a public walkway in Tairua last year.

    She says the dogs wore tracking collars and she thought maybe they believed they were on a hunt.

    Donna believes she's lucky to be alive as the dogs tried to rip her scalp, tore gashes out of her neck, legs and arms.

    Earlier this month, the dog's owner appeared in court and was convicted on three charges over the incident.

    The court ordered two dogs be destroyed but the defendant indicated he will appeal the conviction and destruction order.

    The dogs remain impounded.

    But it's reported the defendant was seen last week in a van with barking dogs.
