There have been cancellations, diversions and delays when the runway was closed twice in a fortnight for maintenance.

An internal review has found repairs took longer on both occasions than they should have.

Chairman of Airlines for Australia and New Zealand, Graeme Samuel says the report is self-serving and fails to explain the impact the closures have on airlines.

He says while they talk of 20 or 30 minute delays.. it's caused three or four hour delays with substantial compensation having to be paid to customers.
