Residents of a small Bay of Plenty community have been given a year to move out

Residents of a small Bay of Plenty community have been given a year to move out

Independent commissioners have backed Whakatane District Council's decision to stop further development on the flood-prone Awa ta ra riki fanhead in Matata.

They've also supported the Council requiring residents to move out by April next year.

The council deemed the area too dangerous after it was inundated with flood debris in 2005.
