Bruce MacVittie has died aged 65

The actor passed away on Saturday (07.05.22) at a hospital in Manhattan, New York, and his wife Carol Ochs confirmed the sad news to The New York Times, though no details about the circumstances surrounding his death have been revealed

Bruce was best known for roles in shows such as 'The Sopranos' and 'Law and Order', as well as a turn in Clint Eastwood's 'Million Dollar Baby'.

Fellow screen star Al Pacino, 82, was among those who paid tribute to Bruce, telling the publication: "I loved Bruce MacVittie. "His performances were always glistening and crackling; a heart and a joy to watch. He was the embodiment of the struggling actor in New York City, and he made it work. We will miss him."

The pair worked together on a 1983 production of David Mamet's American Buffalo. The show marked Bruce's Broadway debut and he went on to take the play on a US tour and a stint in London's West End.

He was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1956 and went to university in Boston before moving to New York City in 1979 to chase his dream of becoming an actor.

His Broadway turn with A; was followed by roles in numerous off-Broadway productions and he also started landing regular roles on TV in series such as 'The Equalizer' and 'One Life to Live'.

Bruce appeared in a TV mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Stand' in 1994 and an episode of 'Sex and the City' in 1999 before landing a recurring role as Danny Scalercio in 'The Sopranos'.

Danny was a juror at the trial of Junior Soprano who is intimidated by the family's thugs.

Bruce also appeared in seven episodes of 'Law and Order' between 1991 and 2006.

One of his last roles was playing Detective Hartigan in Netflix series 'When They See Us'.

He is survived by his wife Carol and daughter Sophia Oliva Ochs MacVittie.
