Jennifer Hudson is teaching her son about the importance of good credit

The 44-year-old star - who has David, 16, with her ex-fiance David Otunga Sr. - has revealed that she's been using a new financial literacy game to help to prepare her son for adulthood.

Speaking to People, Jennifer explained: "My son, he's 16 now, and I've been trying to find ways to teach him different things about credit to prepare him by far better than what I was prepared with - or not.

"It's hard to get the young people's attention, so what better way than through a game, almost like tricking them into it?"

Jennifer has partnered with Credit One Bank to launch Cards on the Table, a free downloadable game designed to help users build good credit habits and answer commonly asked questions on the topic. She hopes it will give David a head start as he approaches adulthood.

The talk-show host said: "I want him to understand how important it is to try to create good credit. Like son, don't max out that credit card. Or make sure you pay your bills on time. If you think about it, our credit is our grade in our adulthood."

Jennifer also spoke warmly about how much her son has grown up, noting that he has recently joined her at a number of public events - including the 2026 NBA All-Star Game and the American Black Film Festival Honors.

She said: "He's 16 now, so if he comes outside with Mama, that's a compliment in itself. They still think he's little David, and I have to tell people, 'Guys, this is the kid. He's not little anymore.'"

Jennifer also brought David to the premiere of her new animated sports comedy Goat, in which she voices a character, and was touched by his reaction.

She shared: "He was like, 'Mama, this is a great film.'"

Meanwhile, Jennifer previously told People that she was eager for her son to get his first job, joking that he was "going to have to start earning" his keep.

Speaking at the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival in August 2025, she said: "He is not a little kid anymore. It's time for him to get a job."
