Auckland Transport is rolling out new ways to clamp down on illegal parking

Auckland Transport is rolling out new ways to clamp down on illegal parking

Three vehicles have been fitted out with high-tech cameras which can scan number plates, record GPS locations and determine if a person is illegally parked.

Parking inspectors will be able to drive around residential parking zones, then sight photos before a ticket is issued.

AA Principal advisor for regulations Mark Stockdale says they're hoping that issuing more tickets will make people change their parking behaviour.

He says motorists have been getting away with illegal parking because the wardens can't cover every area on foot, but that will change now.
