An early alarm for some North Shore residents this morning to make sure they get to work on time, while travelling in snail pace traffic

An early alarm for some North Shore residents this morning to make sure they get to work on time, while travelling in snail pace traffic

The closure of four lanes on Auckland's Harbour Bridge after an accident on Friday is causing big delays.

It's taking over an hour to travel from Silverdale to the city on State Highway One - which is usually a 17 minute trip at this time of the morning.

Herald reporter Lynley Ward is in downtown Auckland, where commuters are getting off their buses.

She says one person caught the bus from Birkenhead - which isn't far from the Harbour Bridge.

Lynley Ward was told the journey took 40 minutes, which was slow going the entire way.
