The driver involved in a dangerous overtake near the central North Island's Mount Ruapehu has been summonsed to court

A 40-year-old man will appear at the Taumaranui District Court for dangerous driving and has had his vehicle impounded for 28 days.

Dashcam footage captured the close call on the Whakapapa skifield access road on Saturday.

Police are reminding drivers that in order to overtake safely, THEY need to ensure it's legal and safe to pass.
