Locals can get to homes in Wairoa via State Highway 38, between Frasertown and Lake Waikaremoana

Locals can get to homes in Wairoa via State Highway 38, between Frasertown and Lake Waikaremoana

The road is closed because of flooding damage, during this week's wild weather on the East Coast - but one lane can be used to get to nearby homes, and by emergency services.

More than 100 properties in the town have been significantly damaged.

A State of Emergency has lifted for Hasting's Haumoana.

Emergency Civil Defence payments are available across the East Coast, to cover food, bedding, and clothing for people affected by the storm.

Meanwhile, the Transport Agency is urging motorists to take extra care this long-weekend, and be vigilant for slips and debris.
