Aucklanders are being urged to plan ahead of extreme wet weather from mid afternoon

A system moving across the North Island is expecting to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms, with possible strong winds also on the cards.

MetService says there is also a low risk of tornadoes.

Meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane says it should come through fairly quickly, but it will hit over rush hour.
