Heavy rain is on the way for parts of the west of the South Island, from overnight

MetService has issued a heavy rain watch from 2am to 8pm, covering Fiordland north of Milford Sound, and Westland south of Fox Glacier.

It says intensities may briefly reach 25 millimetres an hour in the morning, with a moderate chance it could upgrade to a Warning, if conditions worsen.
