An active weekend of weather across the country - with winds in the North and snow in the South

MetService has issued a strong wind warning from three tomorrow - in Auckland, Great Barrier Island and Coromandel Peninsula.

Road snowfall warnings are also taking effect today for Crown Range Road, Lindis Pass and Milford Road.

Metereologist Sylvia Martino, says we can expect thunderstorms about western parts of the country.

She says for the upper North Island, there's the chance the thunderstorms could be severe with brief damaging wind gusts if they touch down.
