Temperatures throughout much of the country are expected to be high and dry this weekend

Warm north-westerly winds, which have been fuelling bushfires in Australia, are making their way over the ditch.

MetService meteorologist Tom Adams says the heat will mainly be felt between Auckland and Canterbury.

He says eastern New Zealand will get the best of the heat - but the west is in for some good sun too.
