Insurance companies are preparing for the claims to start coming in after this week's wild weather

Insurance companies are preparing for the claims to start coming in after this week's wild weather

Heavy rains caused flooding and landslides, in Canterbury forcing a few people to evacuate and a state of emergency remains in place for Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.

Meanwhile, Wellington saw extreme winds on Thursday with roofs lifted and power lines downed.

Insurance Council Chief Executive Kris Faafoi, says the more information those effected can gather before making a claim the better.

He says get records, keep receipts, take photos and ask your insurer any questions before making a claim.
