Andrew Lamositele-Brown , who was deported from Melbourne because of his gang ties, had tried to argue the shooting was an accident.
The shooting caused a seven hour standoff with Auckland police at his Flat Bush home.
He shot the victim while his children and wife were sleeping.
They were later rescued through a window by police.
Jurors took less than an hour to make their decision.
