Covid forced the Black Sticks out of the Pro League in 2021 and the Oceania Cup was last played in 2019.
But veteran forward Jake Smith says the Olympics and Commonwealth Games have helped them get into competitive mode and the game's in great shape locally.
The Black Sticks' Pool C features just one team ranked ahead of them - world number three The Netherlands - their first match is against Chile tonight, at 8.30pm.
