John O'Neill has reportedly been approached to return to Rugby Australia yet again, but this time as chairman

John O'Neill has reportedly been approached to return to Rugby Australia yet again, but this time as chairman

The Australian reports the former chief executive who served in two stints has been asked to return to replace outgoing chair Cameron Clyne.

O'Neill is reportedly asking to pick his own chief executive to replace kiwi Raelene Castle at the helm.

The Australian report says O'Neill would return only if he was given the right to pick the board as well, with no elections for four years.

Rugby Australia is poised to enter broadcast negotiations shortly, with online streamer Optus Sport thought to be cooling on the prospect of the rights they were linked with last month.
