Australians Laura Peel, Josie Baff and Cam Bolton win World Cup gold

Josie Baff and Cameron Bolton edge Great Britain by just four hundredths of a second to win World Cup gold in Türkiye, while in Georgia, Laura Peel launches a sensational comeback to win World Cup aerials gold.

Australian skier Laura Peel has won the latest leg of the FIS Freestyle World Cup aerials competition in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with compatriot Dani Scott winning bronze.

Meanwhile in Erzurum, Türkiye, Cam Bolton and Josie Baff claimed gold in the mixed team snowboard cross World Cup race in a thrilling finish over Great Britain.

In Türkiye, Baff claimed a second medal of the weekend, winning gold with Bolton in the mixed snowboard cross team event to go with her bronze in the individual on Saturday.

Bolton gave the team a great start with his run, edging USA by three hundredths of a second.

Baff took that slim lead into her leg of the race, holding off fast-finishing women's World Cup leader Charlotte Bankes to claim gold by just four hundredths of a second.

Baff, 22, ranked third in the overall women's standings, earned her fourth World Cup podium of the season and third career gold.

"Cam and I had been wanting to be in a team for a while and he gave me the perfect amount of lead that I needed," Baff said.

"I knew that if I had the track to myself, I was going to be hard to pass, so it worked out well for us today and we are really happy."

It is 34-year-old Bolton's first World Cup gold since February 2019, just the second in his career, and his 10th podium.

"Really happy sharing a team with Josie," Bolton said.

"We are close friends and teammates. She is riding so well I just wanted to come out and make sure that I rode as well as I could and give her every opportunity to shine, and shine she did."

The next leg of the snowboard cross World Cup is a double event in Gudauri, Georgia, on March 8 and 9.

Peel underlines class with come-from-behind aerials win

In Georgia, Australia's Peel underlined her fighting qualities with a sensational victory over the defending Olympic champion — despite having sneaked into the final.

Peel, who only made it into the 12-woman preliminary final in 12th spot, qualified in fourth for the final six shoot out.

That didn't matter though as she pulled out all the stops with a magnificent back full-full-full to earn a massive score of 115.91.

China's 2022 Olympic champion Xu Mengtao could not match the Aussie's form through the air, having to settle for second place with a score of 101.74.

Fellow Australian Danielle Scott finished in third place with a back double full-full.

It is Peel's fourth World Cup win of the season and puts her in pole position to claim the overall crystal globe at the final event of the season in Livigno, Italy on March 13, where the Winter Olympic Games will take place next year.

"I feel great, really relieved," Peel told FIS TV.

"I think I got a little lucky, I snuck into the final, so I'm just happy to be jumping,"

Abbey Willcox also made the super final, finishing sixth, while Airleigh Frigo finished 12th.

Elise Coleiro missed the final, finishing 13th, while Reilly Flanagan was 31st in the men's event.

The two-time world champion will be hoping for a solid showing on the Olympic course in Italy ahead of the World Championships in Lake Placid later this month.

Peel, a three-time Olympian, has won every prize available except an Olympic medal.

The 35-year-old holds a comfortable lead in the overall World Cup standings, needing to finish 12th or higher in Livigno to claim a third Crystal Globe.

"I'm in a good spot, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself. One jump at a time, but I'm really happy."
