The Maritime Union says ports need to focus on consistency and safety, not just productivity

The Maritime Union says ports need to focus on consistency and safety, not just productivity

The Cargo Owners Council is concerned and says efficiency at New Zealand ports has fallen by 30 percent since 2019.

Union National Secretary Carl Findlay believes it doesn't have to be either or, with Port of Auckland improving safety, profit and container volumes at the same time.

He says shipping companies don't want speed just for the sake of it.
