New World is launching a reusable container trial in September

The Replay trial kicks off at Auckland's Birkenhead store and at Wellington's Metro Willis Street site.

Containers will have no up-front cost, but will incur a $3 tap-to-borrow fee - reimbursed upon return within four weeks.

The initiative attempts to reduce single-use plastic and send less waste to land-fill.
