The Penguin season 2 is "definitely possible" but nothing is certain

The Batman spinoff series - which starred Colin Farrell as the titular villain - was a success for HBO and fans have been calling for another run of episodes, but nothing is confirmed with work still underway on The Batman 2 feature film

Casey Bloys - HBO and Max's content chairman and CEO - told Variety: "The number one thing right now that Matt [Reeves] is dealing with is getting the movie going. I believe they're making progress there.

"I know that he and [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] have talked about various ideas. So, could another chapter be in the future? Definitely possible.

"Right now, I think the priority for Matt is the movie. But I know that Lauren is thinking of various ideas that might work alongside the movie. I think it's possible. I just don't know at this point."

Casey admitted that any potential series depends fully on Colin being interested and available to return.

He added: "Yes, he's the one that has to play that dark character and sit and sit in the makeup chair for several hours a day. So his buy-in is essential."

Despite remaining positive about another season of The Pengion, the producer insisted he couldn't offer anything more concrete.

Asked about a possible announcement, he said: "No ETA or anything like that."

This week, The Penguin received 24 nominations in total for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, including a nod in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category.

There were also nods in acting categories for the likes of Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti amd Deirdre O'Connell.

Despite admitting he's "open" to talks for the right idea, earlier this year Colin insisted he doesn't want to be rushed into a follow-up just because of its "success".

He told Variety: "I don't want it. I don't not want it. We all left it in the ring in those eight hours.

"I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively.

"So I'm in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it."
