A council candidate meeting in Nelson was disrupted last night, as residents from several houses were evacuated to a Community Centre due to a suspicious item

Police closed a section of Waimea Road just after 5pm, after reports the item had been found, alongside an alleged threat.
The Defence Force Bomb Squad was sent to assess the item.
Police say the evacuations were a precautionary decision.
