The Black Sticks women have opened their Oceania Cup hockey campaign against the Hockeyroos with a 1-nil win in Darwin

A fourth-quarter strike from Olivia Shannon into the bottom left-hand corner was enough for them to toil to victory.

Goalie Grace O'Hanlon's clean sheet earned her woman-of-the-match, but knows the value of Shannon's accuracy and power at close range.

In contrast, the men have lost 2-nil to the Kookaburras.
