Data from the QV Cost Builder shows building costs have been rising almost twice as fast as the rate of general inflation over that time.
Construction costs have risen much more slowly than inflation in the past year.
But the price of building a standard 175 square metre home is still about 61-percent higher than a decade ago.
Overall consumer prices have only risen 33-percent over the same period.
