Katherine Schwarzenegger has taken inspiration from her father Arnold Schwarzenegger when it comes to her parenting approach

The 35-year-old author - who has daughters Lyla, five, and Eloise, three, along with son Ford, 12 months, with her husband Chris Pratt - has taken a leaf out of the Terminator icon's book when it comes to handing out chores for her two elder children.

Katherine told the Cat and Nat Unfiltered podcast: "I guess (we're) more traditional with the chores and also the implementation of the chores and the strictness of the chores.

"And this is like, probably a little bit of my father coming out, but my dad had no patience or excuses for not doing your chores."

The writer - the eldest child of Arnie and his ex-wife Maria Shriver - continued: "I was brought home from my semi-formal because I didn't take my clothes out of the dryer and fold them and put them away. And I came home from the semi-formal because of that. My dad was very strict about it.

"And I was always like, 'This is terrible. How could you do this to us? Nobody has chores like this.' Now I'm like, we're doing the same thing."

Katherine recently revealed that she and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris are loving "life and parenting" with their kids.

She said: "We do a really good job communicating. It's something that was really important to both of us from the beginning and continues to be really important to us as life gets busier and crazier, especially as you add more children into the mix."

Katherine - who is also stepmother to the Jurassic World star's son Jack, 13, from his first marriage to Anna Faris - feels that she and Chris "balance each other out really well" as parents.

She explained: "He has a lot of strengths that I don't have, and I have certain strengths that maybe he doesn't have.

"We are a great team. I think it's always keeping in mind that we're a team and that we're doing our best to tackle all the different things. We're also very present in this beautiful season of life of having young children and getting to spend a lot of time with them. It's such a sweet time."
