Boxer David Nyika believes his date with destiny awaits in the New Year

The Kiwi cruiserweight's accepted a late notice opportunity to challenge the undefeated Jai Opetaia for the IBF world title on the Gold Coast on January 8.

While the Australian's professional career is more advanced - the trans-Tasman rivals are separated by just 38 days in age and are quite familiar with each other.

Nyika says former sparring partner Opetaia has always been a target.



Nyika is 10-and-oh as a pro - Opetaia's 26-and-oh.
