Changes to the Wildlife Act have been pushed through Parliament under urgency

Changes to the Wildlife Act have been pushed through Parliament under urgency

Recently, the High Court ruled it unlawful for the Department of Conservation to authorise the killing of wildlife - when development projects are being carried out.

Conservation Minister Tama Potaka says this placed multiple projects important for growing our economy into a state of uncertainty.

He says he's restoring the approach that DOC was taking for authorising activities before the Court's decision.

Potaka says this will give certainty to authority holders their work can continue lawfully.
