League pundit Phil Gould has urged the NRL to overhaul the match review committee system

The calls come after Cronulla halfback Nicho Hynes was cleared to play Saturday's elimination final against the Roosters.

He was initially charged with a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle on Marcelo Montoya in their win over the Bulldogs.

However, Canterbury provided the governing body with mitigating medical information on Montoya's subsequent injured ankle to help Hynes' case.

Gould - who is also the Bulldogs' general manager - has told Channel Nine they shouldn't have had to wade in.
