In his final season with struggling Barcelona, Lionel Messi's individual campaign has earned him a record-breaking seventh Ballon d'Or title for the best player in the world

Messi broke Pele's record for the most goals at one club and became the first player to score at least 20 in 13 consecutive seasons in Europe's top five leagues.

He also broke Gerd Muller's record of scoring 30-plus goals in 12 straight club seasons.

Messi also ended his wait for a first major international title when Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final.
