Emotional and financial harm for Northland businesses following a massive power outage

Emotional and financial harm for Northland businesses following a massive power outage

A transmission tower toppled on Thursday causing thousands to be without power for hours.

The cause is under investigation but Transpower says its workers were carrying out maintenance work at the time.

The Northland Chamber of Commerce reckons the event cost businesses around $80-million.

CEO Darryn Fisher says it added to previous stress businesses owners had been feeling.

He says they had held a wellbeing event for owners earlier in the week and were then hit with another reason to worry.
