The recent energy crisis has been good news for some energy companies, and bad news for others

The recent energy crisis has been good news for some energy companies, and bad news for others

Meridian Energy's confirmed a 452-million dollar loss, after being hit by periods of low wind, two major droughts, and a shortage of gas.

Mercury's profits have also slumped , while Genesis and Contact have seen profits surge after increasing production to bridge the gap.

Meridian Chief Financial Officer Helen Peters says weather conditions have been the big driver.

She says when there isn't as much water, as a predominantly hydro-generator, Mercury can't generate what it normally would.
