Poking the Chinese bear will only come back to haunt us

Poking the Chinese bear will only come back to haunt us

That's Sir Don McKinnon's view on the Government reviewing agreements with China, after the passing of a new security law in Hong Kong.

The New Zealand China Council chairman says our relationship with the country has never been easy over 70 years.

He says we have faced China's handling of events in Tibet, Taiwan and Tiananmen Square by voicing our concerns in a non-threatening way.

McKinnon says we have to be measured as the two way trade is worth 30-billion dollars.
