Liam Payne wanted to be an archaeologist when he was younger

The 27-year-old former One Direction star has been topping the charts since he was a teenager, but he didn’t always dream of being a musician, as he originally wanted to be just like his movie idol Indiana Jones

However, Liam quickly gave up on his mission to become an archaeologist when he realised the job wasn’t as action packed as the popular movie franchise makes it seem.

Speaking on his FIFA Sound ‘PlayOn’ podcast, he said: “I feel like when I was growing up I wanted to be an archaeologist at one point because I thought it was going to be a bit like Indiana Jones, but it’s probably not like that every day is it?! Like using a toothbrush to dig up old bones.”

And although Liam instead pursued a singing career – which saw him rise to success as a member of the ‘History’ hitmakers when they were put together on ‘The X Factor’ in 2010 – he previously admitted he’s worried about the possibility of his three-year-old son Bear following in his footsteps.

Liam – who has Bear with his ex-partner and fellow singer Cheryl – said: "Bear loves music which kind of scares the crap out of me. This job's a bit scary. It's not that I don't want it for him. I'll support him whatever he wants to do. But at the same time, the amount of stuff that comes with it, you really have to be in it. So as a parent, you're like this is a little bit scary mate. I don't know."

The ‘Strip That Down’ singer even has his own reservations about his career, as he said he finds it hard to sing One Direction songs now that the group has gone on hiatus to pursue solo careers.

He explained: "In rehearsals today I found it hard to sing the songs without the boys.

"It is a struggle, but it brings back so many memories. You’ve got to love it."
