Luke Bryan doesn't know if he'll be returning to 'American Idol'

The 47-year-old singer admitted things are "interesting" on the show at the moment because not only are he and fellow judge Lionel Richie being kept in the dark about who is going to replace Katy Perry on the panel following her recent departure, they still haven't been told if they are keeping their jobs

He told Billboard magazine: "It's been interesting.

"It's been something Disney been really tight-lipped about with me and Lionel and [host] Ryan [Seacrest]. We currently haven't heard what the story is on who's coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back.

"I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we're just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide."

However, the 'Drink a Beer' hitmaker believes there's a shortlist of three megastars in line to replace Katy.

He said: "I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks."

Luke thinks the 'I Kissed a Girl' singer will be a hard act to follow.

He said: "Katy was really perfect for that job, and I think they're just working real hard to find somebody that can really come in and do the job that Katy did."

Pink previously seemed to rule herself out of the judging role earlier this year.

She told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I don't like hurting people's feelings... I like my day job."

By contrast, Meghan would jump at the chance to be a judge and admitted she has "begged" to be considered.

She told 'Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen': "I've done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job, and I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world who don't really have the final say ... but I have begged for this job ... it's my favourite show - I've watched it since I was a child."
