Restricting test cricket to six teams and using the T20 format as a vehicle to spread the game have been key themes to emerge from a symposium organised at Lord's

Former Indian player and coach Ravi Shastri says a lack of quality tests has made the format meaningless in some instances with ratings and crowd numbers dropping.

He's advocated for a promotion and relegation system.

Former Australian batter and coach Justin Langer wanted internationals protected for the next generation, citing West Indies pace bowler Shamar Joseph's captivating debut series in Australia.

MCC president Mark Nicholas said the sport needs to keep chasing money to sustain itself, which was most forthcoming in the shortest format.

Notably the trio quoted were from India, Australia and England.
