A Dunedin teen accused of murdering a 16-year-old, had adopted 'gangster ways' in the lead up to the fatal stabbing

A Dunedin teen accused of murdering a 16-year-old, had adopted 'gangster ways' in the lead up to the fatal stabbing

The now 14-year-old is on trial, following the death of Enere McLaren-Taana at the city's bus hub last May.

He's pleaded not guilty on the basis of self-defence.

Forensic Psychiatrist Brandon Strange told the court the accused's outlook changed drastically after being targeted in a violent armed robbery in 2023.

Strange says he watched fight videos and carried a knife to feel safe.

The trial is due to end this week.
