Police are still out in force in Eastern Bay of Plenty, six days after the death of a gang leader

Police are still out in force in Eastern Bay of Plenty, six days after the death of a gang leader

About 100 extra officers have been deployed, to deal with the hundreds of gang members attending Steven Taiatini's tangi.

Investigations are continuing into his death - and Police say he appears to have been hit by a vehicle similar to a silver ute found burnt-out on Sunday.

District Commander Superintendent Tim Anderson says Police are cracking down on unlawful activity.

He says his staff have been working very hard around the clock, arresting gang members, and seizing weapons and drugs.

Schools and public facilities in Opotiki plan are closed until next week.
