The Wellington Blaze have won a ninth women's Super Smash title - and sixth in eight seasons - after a stunning eight-run win over Otago defending just 105 at the Basin Reserve

Otago - after being asked to bowl first - restricted Wellington to 104 for eight from their 20 overs, led by Felicity Robertson's three wickets.

The Sparks lost regular wickets in their chase as they were held to 96 for nine with their biggest partnerships at either end of the order - 20 at the top and an unbroken 20-run stand for the 10th.

Hannah Darlington was named player of the match after 26 with the bat for Wellington and four for 16 with the ball.

Wellington skipper Melie Kerr says she's thrilled.

The men's final between Central Stags and Canterbury starts at 4:25pm.
