A post-mortem will begin today of a man fatally assaulted at an Auckland bus stop

A post-mortem will begin today of a man fatally assaulted at an Auckland bus stop

A 33-year-old died in hospital after the attack on St Johns Road in Meadowbank about 10pm Saturday.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin says they believe they know who the victim is and are working to contact his next of kin.

He believes they're on the hunt for two offenders -- but the motive for the attack is unclear.

Police are urgently seeking information from anyone in the area at the time -- particularly drivers with dashcam footage.
