ACC's already paid out more than nine-million dollars for tramping related injuries this year

By the end of last month, it had received just over 6000 claims, with that number expected to gradually climb from now through until summer.

ACC injury prevention leader James Whitaker says most tramping accidents can be prevented through good planning.

He says trampers can keep safe by researching the area with tools like Plan My Walk, check the weather often, and stick together as a group.
