Residents from 10 homes in Te Puna, Bay of Plenty, will now begin returning home, as firefighters put out the large shelterbelt fire

Residents from 10 homes in Te Puna, Bay of Plenty, will now begin returning home, as firefighters put out the large shelterbelt fire

16 fire trucks and a helicopter contained the fire near Snodgrass Road, and 20 personnel will stay on to extinguish the fire.

Western Bay of Plenty Mayor, James Denyer, says weather and difficult terrain has been a problem for firefighters today.

He says it's been a fine day with a strong breeze.
