Fishery Officers have confiscated one of the biggest recent hauls of illegally harvested paua - 180-times the limit

Fishery Officers have confiscated one of the biggest recent hauls of illegally harvested paua - 180-times the limit

Inspectors came across a vessel in Titahi Bay near Wellington on Tuesday, with over 18-hundred already shucked paua, worth about 25-thousand dollars.

The maximum daily limit is five per fisher, but only two are believed to be responsible for this haul.

Fisheries New Zealand regional Manager Phil Tasker says offending on this scale is incredibly disappointing, and the pair will likely face charges under the Fisheries Act.

    An investigation's underway
