Belief a local golf course is key for developing sportspeople - as a golf course on Auckland's North Shore faces major change

Auckland Council's confirmed plans to convert half of Takapuna Golf Course into flood-relief wetlands, protecting nearby Milford.

It will invite public consultation this year.

19-year-old Josh Bai grew up in Auckland, before heading to Florida University on a golf scholarship.

He says the journey's similar for other Kiwis on scholarship in the US.

He says he's played at Takapuna and he and others understand its importance to players growing up in the area.
